Mons
Since its reign as the European Capital of Culture in 2015, Mons has as found its footing
as a classic tourist destination.
The city is home to a quirky collection of museums, three UNESCO sites and historic
architecture. It’s also well noted for the ancient Doudou Festival, which is held every
year on Trinity Day. It is a significant spectacle of folklore, as a 10-metre-long green
dragon battles Saint George. Mons’ compact centre makes it well suited for the
daytripper, though there is enough to see over two or three days.
Mons is located 50km from Charleroi Airport, making it closer to the airport than
Brussels itself.
