A bit about Goldcar
The car rental company, Goldcar, was established in 1985 by the Alcaraz brothers. The Spanish duo opened their first car hire offices in Alicante, Spain and for a long time only operated within Spain. In 2011, Goldcar opened a branch in Faro which facilitated its international expansion. Today, the company has over 60,000 vehicles – most of which they update annually – making their cars part of one of the youngest fleets that customers can rent.
Goldcar age requirements
How old do you have to be to rent a car from Goldcar?
In Spain, you can rent a vehicle with Goldcar as young as 19, so long you have held a driving licence for at least 12 months.
However, drivers under 25 who have held their licence for less than four years must pay a surcharge of €7.95 per day with a maximum of €96 per rental. This fee increases to €9.95 per day when hiring a more expensive vehicle.
Goldcar’s conditions state that you must be a minimum of 19 and have held your licence for over one year to rent a vehicle in Portugal.
All drivers between the ages of 21-24 are required to pay €7.95 per day, up to a maximum of €96. Those under 21 must pay a charge of € 9.95 per day with a maximum of €120 per rental.
In Italy, the minimum age to rent a vehicle with Goldcar is 21.
Drivers under 25 who have held their licence between one and four years are required to pay a young driver surcharge of €12.95 per day, up to a maximum of €181.30.
Note that the young driver surcharge can vary from location to location.
