A quiet country town, Stafford is well connected to Birmingham and England’s northern cities.
Once the capital of the kingdom of Mercia, the town is home of a few surprising landmarks. Its timber-framed house is the largest in the country while its Norman castle is visible even as you drive in or out of the town. From Stafford it’s an easy road trip to the wildlife-filled forests of Cannock Chase or the epic hilltops of the Peak District, making it a great West Midlands driving base.
North of the West Midlands is the historic town of Stafford. Overlooked by the impressive ruins of Stafford Castle, built by the Normans in 1070, is the old town centre. Stafford is a pretty English town with plenty of shopping and eating opportunities, as well as some lively nightlife! St Chads church is one of the oldest buildings in Stafford and well worth a visit, as is the Stafford Gatehouse Theatre, the town’s main entertainment and cultural venue.
